I am traveling to India to work on a public health project as a Fulbright Scholar. Starting in January 2007, I will be living, exploring, and working in Lucknow, a northern city in the state of Uttar Pradesh. My proposal pertains to addressing HIV/AIDS prevalence among adolescents living in Lucknow. I hope to study the work currently being done by the Indian government, domestic NGOs, and international AIDS organizations and donors on this public health problem, and to be a part of addressing the related issues.
I decided to start this blog because I hope to track my experiences and travels, and also because I would like to share my journey with friends and family. I know that using the word "journey" to describe my pending trip is rather dramatic and evokes stereotypical images of trekking across the globe. But, for me, I expect it to be a journey, venturing into uncharted territory, if you will. I also hope that this blog becomes a place for people to leave their thoughts, suggestions for things I can do or see, AND I want it to be a way for us to all stay in touch!
